The journey that never ends.
“You’re either working on your recovery or your working on your next relapse.” ~The Traveling CR’s Man.
I latched onto this saying after hearing it in a small group meeting. It stuck with me. I had such a capacity for sin without remorse. my mind was seared numb with the repetition of what I had done. I didn’t want to go back to the life I lived. I didn’t want to go back to that hopeless bondage. However, I would return to that lifestyle if I did nothing to safeguard my heart. As it is written, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life” (Proverbs 4:23 NLT).
The old behaviors, bad attitudes, and negative cycles of thought that should have passed away would creep in and surround me. If I wasn’t careful to protect my heart, I would start practicing my past bad habits. I never want to go back. I gladly embrace the recovery lifestyle, which is to say that I need Jesus in my life, every moment of every day.
